Vaginal Rejuvenation‎ Q&A

What is vaginal revitalization?

Vaginal revitalization refers to treatments aiming to tighten or otherwise alter your internal vagina or external labia. At Bay OB-GYN, PC, Dr. Frenkel performs two different vaginal revitalization procedures that treat vaginal laxity or remove excess tissue:

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure to treat vaginal laxity, which often worsens as you age. Dr. Frenkel tightens the tissues and muscles within your vaginal. Vaginoplasty can result in improved sexual satisfaction by increasing friction during sexual intercourse.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a vaginal revitalization procedure that alters the labia minora. During the surgery, Dr. Frenkel removes fat from the labia minora using liposuction or liposculpture. He may also remove a wedge or strip of tissue. The procedure aims to reduce the appearance of a protruding labia minora and is aesthetic in nature.

Is anesthesia available for vaginal revitalization?

Whether you’re getting vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, or both procedures together, Dr. Frenkel makes sure you’re comfortable throughout the process by offering anesthesia. Local anesthesia numbs the entire region, and Dr. Frenkel offers light sedation to keep you calm during the procedure since you’ll be awake.

Am I a good candidate for vaginal revitalization?

It’s common to experience some significant structural changes to your vagina and labia after childbirth or with normal aging. These changes might not bother you, but you may find them a functional or aesthetic issue. Some of your concerns might include:

  • Clothing that doesn’t fit well
  • Discomfort or easy irritation
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Dissatisfying intercourse
  • Increased risk of yeast infections
  • Self-consciousness

If your labia minora is naturally large, or if it became larger after gaining weight, you might also experience issues like these. You can discuss the possibility of getting labiaplasty with Dr. Frenkel if you don’t like the way it looks or if it’s a hindrance to you in any way.

What is recovery like after vaginal revitalization?

Some mild discomfort, as well as swelling and bruising, can last for 2-7 days after vaginal revitalization procedures like labiaplasty and vaginoplasty. To manage your pain and other common issues during recovery, like spotting or trouble urinating, Dr. Frenkel suggests wearing pads and using a topical antibiotic ointment.

You can safely shower as soon as six hours after your surgery and return to work within two days. However, you should avoid exercise and sexual activity for around 4-6 weeks after vaginal revitalization.
